People From nowhere
People From Nowhere is an immersive art installation that delves into the experiences of immigrants as they navigate the challenges of forging social connections in unfamiliar environments. The project began in October 2021 when, as an immigrant myself, I found myself grappling with feelings of isolation and foreignness. As a sociable individual, forming meaningful relationships has always been an essential part of my life. However, upon moving to London, I realized that this crucial need could no longer be met with ease. In an effort to address this void, I turned to Couchsurfing. Through this platform, I met individuals from diverse nationalities and backgrounds, all seeking the same fundamental need for social interaction and support. Inspired by this shared experience, People From Nowhere aims to shed light on the untold stories of immigrants and their resilience in overcoming loneliness and forging new connections. The installation features a central piece: a inflatable couch as a catalyst for bringing people together. Participants are invited to add their personal touch to the artwork by painting on the couch—a visual representation of the impact that each individual has on society and the interconnectedness of humanity. Ultimately, People From Nowhere seeks to create a space for dialogue, empathy, and understanding by amplifying the voices and experiences of immigrants. Through this project, I hope to foster a deeper appreciation for the challenges faced by those seeking to create a home away from home.
